How long different birds can fly without touching down

Some birds barely leave the ground, while others are built to spend an unbelievable amount of time in the sky.

The great frigatebird is one of nature’s true flying experts. These birds can travel huge distances over the ocean and have been recorded sleeping while flying, using short periods of rest without needing to land.

Then there’s the alpine swift, one of the greatest endurance flyers in the world. During migration, these small birds can stay airborne for around 6 to 10 months, travelling thousands of miles while feeding, drinking, and resting on the move. Their lightweight bodies and ability to use air currents allow them to remain in the sky for extended periods without needing to land.

From a bird that only flies for seconds to one that can stay above the clouds for months, the variety of flight in the animal kingdom is incredible.

When a Tasmanian devil has something to say...

Tasmanian devils may sound intimidating, but they’re surprisingly vocal animals. Their growls, screeches, grunts and chatter are all part of how they communicate, express themselves and interact with the world around them.

This veteran struggled to find work because he needed his service dog. This store hired them both

Air Force veteran Clay Luthy struggled to find work after leaving the military because he relied on his service dog, Charlotte, to help him manage the effects of his service connected disabilities.

Many employers saw Charlotte as a complication, but Lowe’s in Abilene, Texas saw it differently. They hired Clay and welcomed Charlotte too, even giving her her own red Lowe’s vest.

The pair quickly became local favorites, showing how one act of understanding can make a life changing difference. ❤️

In 1969, brilliant aerospace engineer Judith Love Cohen went into labor. But she wasn’t done working. She brought an unfinished math problem to the hospital, solved it, and called it in just before giving birth to Jack Black

That solution was for the Apollo Abort Guidance System. When Apollo 13 had its mid-space explosion a year later, the crew used her backup system to get home safely.

She helped save a moon mission and delivered a legend in the same afternoon.
