Gear rentals in South Florida?

Hi all. I'll be diving for 3 days during the labor day weekend in the Jupiter area. I don't have my own gear yet, and gear rentals in that area seem very expensive. e.g., Jupiter dive center costs $80 for a full set of gear per trip where a trip is defined as one back and forth boat ride, so if you do a morning 1 tank dive and an afternoon 1 tank dive, it's $160 total for gear rental.

Are there more economical ways to rent gear in that area?

I'll be investing in my own gear eventually, but I don't think I'll be ready to invest in a few grand worth of gear before labor day weekend.

Header or no header in new flooring?

I'm getting a kitchen remodel done, where the hardwood flooring in my kitchen is being replaced with red oak to match the rest of the house.

My contractor is asking me if I want to add a header here or not:

https://imgur.com/rSiz0Kn

Note that there's a doorway here but no actual door.

He also said

>The difference would be if you put a header piece in there that runs against the floor we can stop and start the stain right at that point. If we finger it in to the floor, as if it were always laid like that, we will have to pick a point to stop and start the stain and it will be a bit noticeable. Either way will be noticeable, however putting the header piece in would be less noticeable I’m inclined to think to tie it into the rest of the floor at that doorway, instead of putting the the header piece in. The noticeable difference would be on the other side of the basement staircase instead of in the doorway. The noticeable difference will be old wood to new wood, and then also after wood is stained it changes color as it ages. That's why it's impossible to completely match it

I'm thinking the same thing as well, no header. What do you guys think?

How long does oxygen in a 125 gallon tank last?

I have a 125 gallon tank that runs on a FX6 filter. I have the outlet hoses pointed towards the surface to agitate the water.

The tank has a yellow bellied slider, a few guppies and around 30 tetras (some neons and serpaes). It's not planted.

I'm out of town, and I just noticed that my power has been off for the past 13 hours. This means the lights for my tank and turtle basking area hasn't been on. More importantly, this means the filter hasn't been running, and there's no other back up aerator....so i'm concerned about oxygen depletion in the tank....How concerned should I be right now?

There's no power outages in my area, so I suspect it's related to the kitchen remodeling that's happening at my house, but I was supposed to be notified in advance of any electrical work by my contractor, and I was not.....

I was also told that when the electrical work does happen, I should not be without power for more than a few hours and that the electrician will not leave the site until power is restored to the house.. Well it looks like neither has been true so far....

It's now past midnight, so i can't get ahold of any of these contractors until the morning, at which point it'll have been close to 24 hours without power....

i'm not worried about the lighting for this duration. i'm also not worried about the heating as it's summer time and the water temperature probably won't drop below 75F from what I've seen so far.

What I am worried about is the fish running out of oxygen....

Trash removal during ongoing kitchen remodel?

I've been out of town since my cabinets were installed. I have a camera set up in my living room, and I can see the installers left a bunch of cabinet packaging in there, and presumably in other rooms as well.

I'm returning on Friday, and when I asked my contractor about trash removal I was told "Yes, removing all construction debris, packaging, and garbage from the job is included. There will be some garbage on site when you return. Everything will be removed by the end of the job."

Is this normal process? So it's normal to just have all this packaging take up space in other rooms?! It's not acceptable to me so I guess I'm just gonna go ahead and move that shit myself.

Here's a pic from my cam of what my living room currently looks like:

3 day dive trip labor day weekend in Florida?

I'm thinking of spending Friday - Sunday diving somewhere in Florida. I've never dove there, but heard blue heron bridge and the Jupiter area is good for diving.

For blue heron bridge, it seems it's only feasible for a single dive per day since it's only good during slack high tide, though given the shallowness, you can spend up to 2 hours underwater on a full tank?

Regardless, I think this is a good option, but can I fill other dives in around this? Also, my understanding is that blue heron bridge is shore dives, and gear rental in the area is pretty expensive, like around $70 per dive?

I would also like to do shark dives, but it seems like September isn't great time for shark dives. They're also pretty expensive, so I want to make sure I go during good seasons... I hope I'm wrong, but that's what I've read/heard people say

1 week in North Island - what to eliminate?

We’ll be on the North Island from about December 12–18 before heading to the South Island. We’ll be back on the North Island the night before our international flight, which is at 8 PM on January 4, so we should have most of that day to explore as well.

I had to use up some credit card hotel credits by the end of the year, and there were pretty limited options in NZ that qualified for the credit, with most of them being in Auckland. So we currently have December 12–14 booked at Hotel Indigo in Auckland, and January 3–4 booked at the Sofitel -- the 3 nights of hotels are effectively free after these credits, which is great, but it does constrain our location a bit...We have not yet booked lodging outside of those 3 nights.

We’ll be visiting Hobbiton on either the 13th or 14th. I bought tickets for the second breakfast tour on the 14th, but we’re trying to switch to the evening banquet tour on the 13th, which is currently fully booked. There was one cancellation the other day, and we were able to snag one ticket, but need one more. Hopefully another cancellation comes up soon since finalizing our December 13th and 14th plans are pretty much blocked on that right now.

There are a lot of places we’d like to visit on the North Island, but we obviously don’t have time to do everything. Here’s the full list, in no particular order of preference:

  1. Auckland — we’re staying there for a few nights, so might as well explore it
  2. Hobbiton — definitely going
  3. Three Sisters
  4. Waitomo Caves
  5. Taranaki / Egmont National Park
  6. Lake Taupo
  7. Rotorua
  8. Tongariro National Park
  9. Coromandel Peninsula
  10. Bay of Islands

#1 and #2 are pretty much locked in, so I’m trying to narrow down #3–10.

It seems like #3–5 are all in roughly the same area, so I feel like it makes sense to either do all three together or skip that region altogether. Similarly, #6–8 seem to fit together fairly naturally.

I’m currently leaning toward doing #6 and #7 instead of #3–5. If we go that route, maybe we could also squeeze in #8? I’m not sure how realistic that would be given the amount of time we have.

For #9, I was wondering if we could potentially do Coromandel on January 4 before our flight, assuming we head out very early in the morning. But that feels risky with an international flight at 8 PM, especially since it’s a few hours away from Auckland, so maybe that’s not a good idea.

As for #10, it seems like it would either be a very long day trip from Auckland or require spending a night up there, and I don’t think we really have enough time for that, so that one seems like the obvious odd man out.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Also, we haven't bought the North Island to South Island flight yet, but the current plan is Auckland->Christchurch on the 18th.

i'm not sure exactly they want me to do or what "decision" they've made that's irreversible because it doesn't look like I got banned or anything?

this came right after i requested a return for a $250 underwater diving case that flooded during use, and now i'm dealing with phone damage. they told me as a "courtesy" they'll just refund the case without me having to return but that they're not liable for phone damage. idk what i'm gonna do with a $250 broken case and $200+ in phone damages. on top of that, idk what this useless email they sent me is even for? are they going back on the decision to issue a refund?

Countertop seam on left edge of refrigerator?

My countertop CAD guy put a seam in the countertop. That seam is about where the left edge of my dishwasher ends, or perhaps just to the left of it.

I've read the steam from dishwashers can affect the seam integrity, but in this case, it's not centered on the dishwasher, so I'm wondering if it's fine?

Were you able to get your citibank AA business card virtually?

I was approved for a citibank AA business last thursday. It's being shipped to my permanent address; however, i am out of the country until August 21st, and want to make a large purchse with the card before i return.

I called citibank a couple times and was told the only way to access the virtual card is through the online account. i do have several personal citi cards and a personal citibank online account associated with those cards, but i was told the business card needs its own citibank business account, and in order to create it, i need to have the card number, but obviously i don't have that right now. so there's a circular dependency here.....

i need a virtual card because i don't have the physical card. i can't access the virtual card because i don't have a citibank business account. i can't create a citibank business account because i don't have the physical card.

has anyone gotten around this before?

Any demolished brick houses in the area?

Hey all, weird question, but does anyone know of any demolished brick houses in the area that might have brick lying around? I'm looking for some reclaim "standard" sized brick (about 200 of them to fill in a door on my old house). I might be able to get it from antique brick in detroit, but wanted to have some backup options just in case they don't have the style I need.

Some old home owners mentioned that when they needed bricks in the past, they just looked around town or in detroit for demolished brick houses and usually there were some brick lying around that they could take.

South island loop: start/end in queenstown/CC?

We will be in South island for about 2 weeks over the christmas and new years holidays, and we'd like to visit the following sites (in no particular order):

  1. franz josef

  2. wanaka and roy's peak

  3. milford sound

  4. queenstown

  5. mount cook and tepako

We've looked at several itineraries of this "loop" and we commonly see people start and end in CC. We're fairly indifferent about spending time in CC, so I'm wondering if we should perhaps start and end in queenstown, or maybe queenstown->CC or vice versa?

Where to spend Christmas and New Years day on South island?

We'll be on the South Island for about two weeks, from December 19 through January 2, which obviously overlaps with both Christmas and New Year's.

We're planning to do a fairly typical two-week loop, with stops in Tekapo, Mt. Cook, Mount Aspiring National Park, Wānaka, Queenstown, Milford Sound, and Fox Glacier. We haven't decided whether to start in Christchurch or Queenstown yet, or exactly what order to visit everything in.

We're wondering which places would be good to spend Christmas and New Year's, and whether there are any places we should avoid on those dates. For example, are any major tourist attractions, restaurants, or other activities typically closed on Christmas Day or New Year's Day that we should make sure to plan around? Are there particular towns that are better or worse for being there over those two specific days?

Roatan shark dive

There's a shark dive on the south side of the island operated by some monopoly operator IIUC. I see dive shops here in west end offering that day trip out there (i think all they do is arrange the transportation and maybe provide you with gear and then send you off to the shark dive operator), but I'm wondering if I can just book directly with the shark dive operator? I can't find a website for them.

Also can that dive happen in the afternoon or is it mornings only?

I'm on the fence about doing it since it's just a staged feeding show but want to see what my options are. If it's mornings, then I definitely can't do it.

Anyone know where i can get some reclaim bricks close to Ann Arbor, MI?

I'm having an exterior door in my kitchen replaced with a wall + window. The house is a 1927 tudor, and it's difficult to find matching bricks. The old salem style matches my existing bricks the best in terms of color, but I was told that they no longer manufacture the 8" width sized bricks anymore and all the current sizes at 7 5/8".

So one solution is to just make the mortar joints thicker, but I want to see if I can find some reclaim bricks. I called all the local brick providers and no one has reclaim bricks.

Would anyone happen to know where I can find some near ann arbor, michigan?

Best redemption value for usbank business altitude connect card?

I have about 90k in points to redeem, and I don't see any transfer partners like I do for points from other CC companies, so I was going to just redeem for cash, but wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything before I do that. Are there better redemption offers than for cash?

Google flights: Unfortunately, the price you saw on the previous page has changed

I've been using Google flights to track flight costs for as long as I remember.

For the past week, I've been tracking Auckland to Detroit with a departure on January 3rd. if you look at the price graph on google flights, it'll show it fluctuating between just shy of $1k and about $1.7k for months.

Right now it shows $989 for the american airlines flight: https://imgur.com/3yBmohF but when you click on the actual flight, it'll show: https://imgur.com/a/OhvUHyN#YzMhzSq "Unfortunately, the price you saw on the previous page has changed"

I think there's something glitched on google flights because this AA operated flight AFAICT has never dropped to $989 despite the main google flights page showing so. Am I misunderstanding something here, or is there indeed some glitch?

I don't believe this is a case of the price changing, but that the price was never $989 in the first place.
