Katara came into BARC as a stray on 10/8. She was just 9 weeks old and arrived with significant medical concerns, including widespread hair loss and an injury to her right hind leg. Her intake condition was classified as severe.

No behavioral evaluations have been documented for Katara.

🚑 Medical Notes:

• 10/8: Katara weighed 11.5 lbs and received a 4/9 medical assessment. Veterinary staff noted that her right hind leg appeared to be broken. She was also experiencing significant hair loss across her entire body.
• 10/8: A veterinary examination documented widespread hair loss and lameness, with Katara unable to bear weight on her right hind leg. A skin scraping was performed and returned negative. The veterinarian assessed her skin condition as dermatitis, potentially associated with flea allergy dermatitis.
• Flea medication was administered, and carprofen was prescribed for pain and inflammation.
• The veterinarian recommended rescue placement for further diagnostics and treatment.
• She received routine intake vaccines, deworming, and flea prevention.

Freddie is Sefi’s little brother. Both siblings have had a hard time in the shelter, but Freddie seems to be adjusting at a slower pace. This poor boy is so confused and scared by his current surroundings—it’s heartbreaking. He initially would not walk at all, even when we used his sister to try and coax him, and would tremble and sometimes low growl in his kennel anytime someone approached. But! On Sunday, we tried again, and Sefi was able to get Freddie out of his kennel and even outside 🥹. Though he’s still very scared and unsure of things, he did let us pet and walk him. He is so handsome and has the most squishable blockhead! He was very happy to be near Sefi and also met another pup without issue. Freddie is VERY strong and walks on a tight leash but does seem to redirect easily. He has been through a lot since arriving at the shelter and will most likely need significant decompression time and a patient person familiar with anxious dogs. I love these two hams so much, and I’m really hoping he and Sefi will both make it out alive(and ideally together)!

• A2092629 Bella: Rescue Only, 4-year-old GSD mix, medium-sized girl at 56 lbs. She is confused and distressed in the shelter environment. She's currently HW High+.
• A2092022 Bono Box: 2-year-old Staffordshire mix. Amazing notes and ready to go! Happy, affectionate, and playful boy who greets people with a wagging tail and wiggly body. He is easy to leash, walks well, and enjoys treats, cuddles, and attention. He has also shown playful interest in other dogs!
• A2091700 Choppo: 2-year-old Staffie Mix. Friendly, wiggly young pup with the cutest ears! Loves play and affection. Heartworm negative, non-reactive to other dogs (pays them little attention when passing by kennels. He loves life!
• A2093934 Echo: 13-month-old German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever Mix who greets staff with a relaxed body, soft eyes, and fast-wagging tail. Loves baby talk! He is easy to leash and walks well to/from the runs. Had an adopter in rural Canada, but no rescue can transport her in time! He's only been at BARC for a few days and is already out of time!
• A1933798 Esther: Rescue Only, 6-year-old Labrador Retriever Mix who came in as an owner surrender and is HW positive (high). Noted to have mild right hindlimb lameness while walking, with a slight bunny hop. She has been sweet and greets staff with a gentle wagging tail! She was diagnosed with right hindlimb lameness. She has already escaped death at BARC 2 years ago to be returned two years later through no fault of her own. Rescue will cover expenses.
• A2089073 Judy: 6-year-old Staffy Mix who is a medium/large sized girl. She is HW+. Judy came to the shelter as a stray, but she’s a plump old girl with good teeth who knows how to sit, and keeps her kennel clean, looks to have known a home before. She’s always very well behaved in her kennel, always sleeping on her bed, and has the cutest tail wag!
• A2093230 Mack/Mick: 3-year-old Staffordshire Mix. Popular guy! He’s a very good boy, loads of fun! He is very people- and dog-friendly! He would make an excellent running or walking buddy. He loves to chase the ball; just a fun-loving dog. Medium-sized guy at 50.8lbs who is HW Low Positive.
• A2093865 Mickey: 2-year-old Staffie Mix. Loves human attention and being dressed up! Heartworm negative and not spayed yet. She would most likely need slow, intros or to be an only dog. She growls at male dogs when walking by kennels. She’s not spayed, so potentially making sure males stay away from her, but it’s hard to know in the shelter environment. She has great volunteer notes and has been described as super sweet.
• A2089651 Ryder: 2-year-old Staffordshire Mix who came in as a stray. Described as the best boy who is a fantastic listener. Great on a leash and highly treat-motivated! He's a healthy medium-sized man at 54.4lbs and is ready to go! He's HW- and already neutered.
• A2089676 Steve-O: 1-year-old Boxer Mix who is a staff favorite and has been described as a great listener who loves tricks and would do amazing with a backyard! He's very affectionate and loves giving kisses. He is a healthy boy who is heart-worm negative and ready to go!

• A2092040 Mase / A2092042 Trace / A2092039 Kase (litter): 5-month-old Staffordshire Mix puppies. 2/5 puppies on the list have been rescued, with these three pups remaining! These babies are so skinny. They look very bony, and they all clamor for treats. Potential cruelty case. They are five months old and only 9 pounds each. Otherwise, they are typical happy puppies!
• A2092260 Zaza: 8-month-old Great Dane Mix: Lots of puppy energy. Very happy, wiggly, and can be hyper on the leash. Does well with redirecting.

If adopting locally and the dog is heartworm positive, BARC will cover heartworm treatment with the purchase of 6 months of preventative through the shelter ($40-60 and cheaper than you can get anywhere on the market!).

Chotes is bright, alert and responsive. He has a shorter, malformed front left leg. According to the owner, his mother sat on him as a puppy and the leg did not develop normally.

He received DA2PP-V, Bordetella and Rabies vaccines, deworming, Pyrantel and Advantage Multi.

9/4/2026: Very high energy. This morning dog greeted me with fast wiggly body and she was vocalizing at me and tippy tapping. I leashed her and she walked out on a tight leash but maintained wiggly body and wagging tail. I placed her in the runs and I did not notice any behavior. No issues retrieving her and placing her back into kennel.

9/3/2026: During cleaning was forward barking at other dogs walking past her kennel. While assisting citizens with another dog after opening, Mickey began snarling very loudly, lunging and barrier fighting from behind the cover at the other dog walking past. Later, citizens pulled back the sheet to peek at her and Mickey was low growling until they moved on.

After 5 while topping off waters, heard a dog snarling and barking. When I turned around, Mickey was standing on her hind legs looking down at the dog next to her. Continued even when the other dog remained curled on bed, trembling, but ignoring her until I tossed treats into her kennel to distract her.

9/2/2026: Mickey was a move adopt this morning. She came to me with no issues while at the runs. Placed her on adopt eval due to forward barking at dogs walking by her and standing on kennel.

7/29/2026: 10 dogs all sizes, abandoned by previous owner on lot. Didn’t take them at time of moving per caller. Roams area in the morning, come in and out of lot, check for violations.

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

8/31/2026: Sarina greeted me with a loose body, fast wagging tail, ears up, open mouth smile, and soft eyes. She did a good job of keeping her kennel clean overnight. Sarina was walked on a loose leash and neutral to and from the outside runs. She paid little attention to other dogs as she passed by their runs and kennels. Once placed back in her kennel, she would occasionally jump on the walls of her kennel when she heard me down the aisles. Afterwards, she would lay down on her cot and fall asleep.

8/29/2026: Approaching the kennel, Sarina greeted me with a loose body, fast wagging tail, ears up, open mouth smile, and soft eyes. She did a good job of keeping her kennel clean overnight. While in the runs, she was occasionally whining in front of the run and pacing from side to side when she saw me. Once placed back in her kennel, she started to whine and bounce around for a short time before she stopped and laid down on her cot for the rest of the morning.

8/26/2026: Sarina presented a relaxed body, mid wagging tail and soft open mouth. Was able to leash with no issues. Walked on a loose leash with a soft open mouth and loose tongue. Would look up at me and I would give her head pets.

8/25/2026: Sarina walked on a loose leash to the run and back to her kennel. When back in the kennel she stood in front of the kennel door.

8/23/2026: Sarina was in front of the kennel and when I leashed her she walked semi-tight then slowed down as one of the dogs was vocal outside. Once in the run she roamed around and as I was bringing her back she walked loose leash to the kennel.

8/19/2026: Sarina was calm when walked up to her kennel. She waited until it was her turn with no issues. Had a calm body, slow moving tail, was easy to leash and walked to runs and back with no issues.

8/10/2026: Sarina was laying down on her cot. When she saw me she stood up and greeted me at the gate with a neutral body and eyes, and low hanging tail. She did a good job of keeping her kennel clean overnight. She was shy but did not mind me walking towards her and giving her some pets. Sarina was walked on a loose leash and neutral to and from the outside runs.

8/8/2026: Approaching the kennel, Sarina was laying down on her cot. When she saw me she stood up and greeted me at the gate with a neutral body and eyes, and low hanging tail. 8/2/2026: She was at the front of the kennel with a relaxed body and a soft wagging tail. She walked on a loose leash to and from the runs. While in the runs she sniffed neighboring dogs and did her business. When in her kennel she’s quiet and keeps it clean.

8/1/2026: She was at the front of the kennel with slightly pinned ears and a tucked tail. I baby talked her and went to leash her, as I did that she moved back away from me and slightly cowered, then I leashed her. She was slow to come out of her kennel but once she did she walked on a loose leash to and from the runs.

7/29/2026: Weighed 45.6 lbs. Normal exam.

7/30/2026: Weighed 46.4 lbs. Generalized dermatitis, especially on face and limbs. Skin scrape NSF. Prescribed Cephalexin 500mg twice daily for 14 days. HW High Positive. Vaccinated (Bordetella, Rabies), dewormed, and given flea/heartworm prevention.

8/5/2026: Weighed 45.6 lbs. Dermatitis. Given NexGard Plus.

8/12/2026: Weighed 45.6 lbs. Dermatitis. Booster given.

8/17/2026: Weighed 45.6 lbs. Coughing with clear dripping nasal discharge. Diagnosed with CIRDC. Moved to treatment room and prescribed Doxycycline 200mg once daily for 10 days.

8/28/2026: Weighed 45.6 lbs. No URI symptoms noted. CIRDC resolved. Move adopt.

8/29/2026: Weighed 45.6 lbs. Dermatitis.

🆘 SUPER URGENT — COSTCO #A659340 NEEDS OUT NOW. This adorable pocket-sized brindle boy is only 13 months old and 29 lbs, and the loud shelter environment is overwhelming him. 💔 He can be euthanized on any Monday, Wednesday or Friday morning without notice.

COSTCO was owner surrendered on 8/18 because of “OTHER PET.” Now he could lose his life simply because he hasn’t found another home in time.

Staff offered treats and baby talk, and she slowly walked outside. Once outside, she was hesitant to go into the grass and kept pulling back, seeming like she wanted to go back inside. Brooke stayed by the door and walked back inside once it was opened.

8/31: Brooke was standing at the front of her kennel with a semi-tense body posture, tucked tail and closed mouth. Staff baby talked to her and offered treats before leashing her. Once leashed, she slowly walked out of the kennel but stopped several times. Outside, Brooke continued to have a tucked tail, tense body posture and worried face. She appeared fearful and reluctant to walk, only walking around the grass area before slowly walking back inside.

8/30: Brooke showed timid body language and a worried face. Staff used baby talk to leash her, and she went slowly, flinching when the leash was placed on her. At first she began to walk but then froze and would not move. She had to be carried to her new kennel.

8/31/2026: Very timid and shut down in kennel. I opened the door and he was laying down. I placed the leash and he began to slowly turn around to press his snout in corner. I entered kennel and then scoot him out. He slowly got up and walked but then stopped due to the noise. I then had to lightly pick him up and place him in new kennel. No muzzle needed.

8/30/2026: Mark was very timid and avoided eye contact when I opened his kennel. I was able to get his attention with treats and baby talk and he eventually took a treat gently from my hand. No aggression shown, but dog was really shut down and depressed.

8/30/2026: In the AM when I approached dog he was pressed to the wall with low head. I placed the leash and he slowly came forward but then ran back into kennel. I tried baby talking but dog just pressed himself on the wall and went to lay down. Just removed the leash and scooted him to next available kennel.

8/27/2026: Timid.

🩺 MEDICAL NOTES:

Sarina arrived at BARC as a stray after reportedly being among 10 dogs abandoned by their previous owner when the owner moved.

She arrived with generalized dermatitis, especially affecting her face and limbs. A skin scrape was performed and was NSF (no significant findings).

She was treated with:

• Cephalexin 500 mg twice daily for 14 days

• Advantage Multi

• NexGard Plus

• DA2PP

• Bordetella

• Rabies — 1 year

• Deworming / Pyrantel

Sarina also developed coughing and clear nasal discharge during her stay and was treated for CIRD with doxycycline.

On 8/28, her record states “CIRD resolved” and she was moved to ADOPT.

Her most recent medical record on 8/29 still lists dermatitis.

Sarina’s heartworm test is HIGH POSITIVE and she will need veterinary follow-up and appropriate heartworm treatment.

Sarina has consistently shown sweet, calm and manageable behavior.

She walks well on a loose leash, enjoys pets, keeps her kennel clean and has remained neutral around other dogs.

Both puppies arrived in normal condition but developed upper respiratory symptoms shortly after intake.

Pipper had sneezing and clear nasal discharge, while Pumpkin had cloudy nasal discharge. Both were treated with Doxycycline 100 mg once daily for 10 days.

On 8/17, both puppies completed treatment with no clinical signs observed, and their URI/CIRD was documented as resolved. They were moved out of the treatment kennel.

• Deworming / Pyrantel
• Advantage Multi

Both are currently documented as normal medically.

🐾 BEHAVIOR NOTES:

Pipper and Pumpkin are sweet, playful, people-friendly puppies who love attention, treats, toys and each other.

They have been repeatedly described as wiggly, happy and affectionate, enjoying pets and interacting with families by licking hands and playing.

They love playing together and with their plush toys. Pumpkin has also shown that he can be comfortable and playful when separated from his sibling.

They are puppies, so they can be jumpy, vocal and mouthy during play, but staff have continued to describe them as friendly and affectionate.

8/28/2026: Panchito was calm and quiet in his kennel during am feeding and cleaning.
Presented a relaxed body, mid wagging tail and soft open mouth. Once leashed he walked on a very tight forward leash while ignoring trail of treats.
8/27/2026: Panchito presented a wiggly body, high wagging tail and soft smiling open mouth.
Walked on a tight forward leash while ignoring attempts at redirecting. Entered and exited kennels with no issues.

8/26/2026: Weighed 54.2 Ibs. Generalized hair loss, mostly concentrated on the caudal body, with significant itching and crusting of the ears.
Skin scrape positive for sarcops. Assessment: dermatitis secondary to sarcops. Advantage Multi was applied upon intake to treat scabies, and cephalexin was prescribed twice daily for 14 days.
8/26/2026: Left eye is cloudy but appears visual with no redness or discharge. A private vet evaluation of the eye is recommended, but no further shelter treatment is needed unless

irritation or discharge develops.

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

8/28/2026: Very vocal in kennel. Pulls strongly on leash. Can get over aroused while outside.

8/27/2026: Dog was vocal in the kennel and when leashed she bolted out of the kennel and was on tight leash. Had to hold on to the fence where she was pulling and when I was bringing her back in she again bolted out, making me go forward. Had to hold on to the leash tight for her so she could stop, but she didn’t; she was still pulling on the leash.

8/24/2026: Vocal in kennel during am feeding and cleaning. Walked on a very tight forward leash while ignoring attempts at redirecting. Pulled so hard that he began to cough/hack and I had to use both hands to keep control of his leash.

8/25/2026: Dog was in front of the kennel and when I leashed her she began to pull on the leash. As I tried to get her attention she only focused on pulling towards the runs, and once in the run she roamed around and was vocal. Back in her kennel she walked in and only stood in front of the kennel.

8/23/2026: Dog greeted me in front of the kennel and when I leashed her she began to pull on the leash. When I placed her in the run she kept running back and forth, and as I brought her back in she was pulling forward making the leash tight. Back in her kennel she drank water then sat in front of the kennel door.

8/19/2026: Mr. Landon greets you at the front of his kennel with a loose body, happy tail at the kennel door. Is easy to leash and walked on loose leash to the runs and back with no issues.

8/10/2026: Landon was a move adopt in the am. He comes to greet me loosely at the kennel door. He does sit without command and awaits for me to offer him a treat.

8/9/2026: Dog greeted at the front of the kennel with loose wiggly body, soft eyes, and a fast wagging tail. Easily leashed and walked with a loose leash outside to the runs. Easily leashed and returned to kennel.

8/7/2026: Dog allowed me to leash and followed me out of the kennel. Walking to the runs she holds a tight leash, neutral body and neutral face. Walked to and from the runs no issues.

8/28/2026: No URI symptoms noted. CIRDC resolved. Move adopt.

8/28/2026: At the back of her kennel avoiding eye contact, whale eyes, lip licking. When the leash was placed, she just laid on the floor. Muzzle and carry into a new kennel.

8/27/2026: Very timid. Tense body, tucked tail, and lowered head. Kennel was clean, so she was left in place to minimize stress. Easily removed blanket and replaced it. Emptied bowl and refilled.

8/26/2026: Tania easily picked up and moved to new kennel. Very timid. Tense body, tucked tail, and lowered head.

🚑 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

8/25/2026: Weighed 42.0 lbs. Generalized areas of hair thinning. Skin scrape NSF. Both eyes red with mucoid discharge. Assessment: dermatitis and conjunctivitis. Treatment plan included NexGard Plus and Terramycin in both eyes twice daily for 10 days.

8/25/2026: Vaccinated (Rabies, DA2PP-V, Bordetella), dewormed, and given flea/parasite prevention. Heartworm test: High Positive.
