ICBC Chinese Bank Opinions

Hello, I was offered a temporary to permanent position at ICBC in NYC as a credit analyst. How is ICBC viewed? Will working at a Chinese bank limit my prospects in NYC? I’m 3 years out of school. Thanks!

Old Job 401K Options

Hello - I started a new job and I’m wondering what to do with my old 401k. Fidelity called me and told me there’s no administrative fee to just keep the money where it is or I can roll it over. Interestingly enough, my new 401k is with Fidelity too and they have the same exact S&P 500 fund lol. Anyway, do you guys roll over your 401k or leave it? I do my own taxes so I just wanna avoid headaches at tax time. Thanks.

Luxury Apartments 1 Bedroom Prices

Hi all - wanted to ask if anyone is living or has lived in any Luxury Apartments (Station Landing Apartments, Modera, Wellington, RE130, Acadia, etc.) I’m curious what month you rented and what you paid for a one bedroom. They’re all about $3400 right now but I keep hearing price is a lot lower in the winter. If anyone can let me know what they paid and when, I’d be very grateful! I’m basically trying to figure out how much prices will fall if I wait. Thank you!

Colonoscopy - Gatorade Zero or with Sugar?

Hi all - preparing for my first colonoscopy. They said to mix Gatorade with MiraLAX. I’m using Lemon Lime. Should I do the zero calorie version or the one with sugar? What’s better to take down and better for the test? Thanks!

October 1 Rental Timeline Help

Hello - I am looking to rent a place in Boston around late September or October 1. I am from out of state so I need to take a weekend trip to Mass to see the apartments. I was originally gonna go next weekend (August 22) but I read that prices fall dramatically in September so my question is, should I wait until September 5/6 or 12/13 to see places? I’m even worried that September 5/6 is too early because prices fall after Labor Day. What do you guys think? I’m wondering if it makes sense to even go late August if prices will be much cheaper in September.

23 Lexus NX vs 26 Crown Signia vs 24 Lexus ES 350

Hi all - I’ll looking for car advice. I think I’ve narrowed it down to these 3 but I’m open to suggestions. A 2023 Lexus NX with 30k miles for $43k, a new 2026 Crown Signia for $43k, or a 2024 Lexus ES 350 with 30k miles for $42k. My general budget is $50k or under OTD. I’m a single male so don’t have a family and don’t have space needs. I chose these cars because they seem like nice rides and cheap to maintain at my price point. My biggest wants is affordable maintenance, reliable, smooth, comfortable, low road noise. I realize I can afford a BMW or Benz in this price range but the maintenance costs outside of warranty scare me away (I would be buying 3 years old with 30/40k miles). What would you get from the 3 cars I listed? I’ve driven them all and they all seem fine. They all have heated seats, wireless CarPlay, and seem comfortable. I am living in Massachusetts so I think AWD is preferable. The Lexus ES 350 is FWD only which is concerning. Before anyone asks, I’m not doing winter tires (too annoying to change tires twice a year). What would you buy from these options? Thanks!

Narrow Hong win is the worst case scenario for Dems

Seeing the candidates virtually tired after 2/3 of the votes in, the polls missed by a huge margin. This is the second race where the progressive underperformed significantly. If Hong pulls this off, this can’t be good for Dems in November. What do you think?

Charlieticket Prices

Hi all -new to Boston and looking to buy a Charlie ticket. I’ll be commuting from Melrose to North Station and want the type they lets you take subways, buses, and commuter rail. What is the price for those? I’m having a hard time finding it online. Thank you!

Commute to Boston

Hi all - I’m interested in moving to Melrose and wanted to ask about the commute to Boston. Specifically, do people take the commuter rail or the 137 bus to Oak Grove, or something else? My main worry is the commuter rail doesn’t come often (like every 45 minutes) and that it’s frequently delayed. Is that true? Also is the 137 bus to Oak Grove a pain or it’s seamless? Any insights would be helpful! Thanks all!

Depreciation

Does anyone have any guesses or idea about the depreciation on the Crown Signia? Do we think it’ll hold its value because it’s a Toyota or will it depreciate fast because no one knows about it? The Crown sedan looks like it loses $15k in 3/4 years or so based on resale values. The RAV4 loses $6k. Drastic difference. Which do we think the Crown Signia will be more like?

Wagon vs SUV

Hi all - I’m curious the difference between a wagon and an SUV. I visited a Toyota dealership earlier this week and asked to see their compact SUVs. He showed me Corolla Cross and a RAV4. I luckily saw a Crown Signia on their showroom and asked what’s that. He tells me it’s not an SUV but a wagon. I asked him how this looks any different than a Corolla cross (they looked very similar in size and shape but not style). He was adamant that one is an SUV and the other is a wagon. Then he tells me the Crown Signia doesn’t sell well because people don’t wanna drive wagons. If someone asks for an SUV, he doesn’t even show it. To me, the size, space, height, all looked like an suv. I still don’t know why a Corolla cross is an SUV and the Signia is a wagon. Can someone educate me? And why don’t people wanna buy wagons vs SUVs? (I.e. how’s the Signia worse than a Corolla cross or RAV4 because it’s a wagon?) thanks!

Possible Crohn’s Disease (Symptoms)

Hi all - im a 32m and I’m going in for a colonoscopy in 3 weeks but wanted to post here to see if anyone has similar symptoms as me. For the past month, I’ve had diahrrea and very loose stool (3-4x a day). I have almost no stomach pain with it. When there is pain, it goes away as soon as I have a bowel movement.

I went to my doctor and he tested for parasites and a few other things. All came back negative except the Occult test showed blood in my stool. I’ve never seen any blood myself in my bowel movements and when I was getting the samples for the test, I didn’t see any blood either (like at all). I even remember thinking this won’t show anything. Well, it’s positive for microscopic blood he said. I also got tested for Calprotectin which shows inflammation in the intestines and it came back normal. Not even a little high. That got me really concerned for colon cancer. Can I have Crohn’s with normal Calprotectin?

I will say that I had a couple months long diahrrea back in 2021 (I was 26m) that seemed to go away on its own. I was worried enough to see a gastroenterologist then and he just dismissed me completely. I’m not sure if this is related or not but thought I’d mention it. Anyone have symptoms like these? I’m freaked out due to the blood and negative Calprotectin test that it might be cancer. Thanks!

Federal Estate Tax Exemption Future

Hi - is there any chance the current $15 million estate tax threshold gets lowered by Democrats? Or better yet, what are the chances they lower it in the future? I’m currently contemplating a gift to my parents for my houses worth several million but if the estate tax exemption is lowered, they can very well be over it. (Their accountant recommended I do this to them to get a step up in basis.) They currently have about $20 million and I would be giving them about $2 million in property. My question is, what’s the appetite among Dems to lower the exemption? Tried asking the accountant and he didn’t give me a straight answer.

Winter Tires: how many people in America use them?

Hi - curious how many Americans use winter tires. I saw a debate today on another sub and it seemed like they’re super popular in Canada and Europe. Reddit seems to also love winter tires. I live in the Northeast US and do not know a single person who changes their tires out for the winter. I actually asked this in the Connecticut sub and it was very biased towards not using winter tires. What’s the reason for the difference? Is my social circle just weird or do Americans not use winter tires?

When do you splurge with your money?

Hi all - I have a question. I’ve been saving literally my whole life. I am now finally moving out of a big city in the northeast and now want to buy my first car ever. The responsible thing to do would be to buy a 2026 RAV4, pay $40k but after 5 years and 60k miles, these are still going for $32k. Depreciation is so low. I will also put in maybe $2k of maintenance total over 5 years (cost info ownership is $10k for 5 years). The not responsible thing would be to get a fun car like a BMW 3 series. I would get a 2023 with 35k miles for $35k. But after 5 years? It’ll be worth about $15k and my research tells me I might have $10k of maintenance during this time (total cost of ownership is $30k). My heart tells me BMW but my head tells me RAV4. I am single, no kids, so don’t need the space. I lucked rav4 because it was good tech and lowest depreciating. That’s purely it. What would you guys do and when do you splurge vs continue saving?

In case it matters, I’m 31, make $225k, but after taxes, rent, 401k and expenses, I net about $60k a year. I have no debt and $200k in savings and another $200k in retirement. I’m trying to balance financially responsible vs fun. Thanks!
