Return of Pebble/Lost Pets/Mystery Busters review

I just like sharing my thoughts on the new Chibiverse episodes, here they are!

Return of Pebble- I was not expecting Pebble to come back, he seemed like a perfectly fine one-off but this episode is really good so I'll give it a pass. I liked how Shego got her own villainous verse in a song. I also loved our heroes dressing up as villains in order to sneak into the villains' lair to rescue Pebble after he's been kidnapped. It honestly surprised me to hear Flintheart Glomgold order the other villains to kill Star, Cricket, and Remy. This is normally a cutesy show that I thought would avoid using the word kill but I was pleasantly surprised.

Lost Pets- I like Perry leading his fellow pets back home after getting lost but is pushing himself too hard so the other pets have to teach him that he's not in this alone which is very sweet.

Mystery Busters- They kinda reuse the plot of the "Great chibi mix-up" from an earlier season but it's done better here in my opinion. The Frankenstein fusions are honestly more cursed here in a good way. I also love how Webby has apparently been investigating the strange occurrences in the chibiverse all this time. The callbacks were cute, I especially love how she points out they had summer in winter and winter in summer as a cute meta nod to the episode release schedule.

My unpublished fic about an adopted princess Macy (It was kinda BS.)

I wrote it when I was a kid. The fic was about Macy excited for her eventual coronation and becoming queen of Fairyland but much to her shock, her parents announce that Lue will become the next queen instead. Macy doesn't understand because Lue is the eighth daughter and should technically be last in line for the throne. Macy still isn't given an answer. It turns out that it's because Macy and most of her sisters were all adopted, there was a rule in the kingdom that adopted children had no claim to the throne so Lue was the only one who could take over as the only biological child. I think it was kinda dumb but then again that's to be expected as I was a kid back then. It's a fantasy kingdom so I guess it could have weird rules like that but it doesn't make much sense even still. Plus couldn't Owen and Snowflake (Yeah, that's their names.) change the rule so their eldest daughter can become queen? I don't think I ever explained why adopted children of a royal family can't take over! They're the current king and queen so they very much have the authority to change the rules. I'm planning on rewriting this but I don't know how Macy could be denied the throne. It couldn't be that she's considered a weak link because she's already been established to have great leadership skills. She's very smart, empathic, and is a skilled magic user.

Gymnasts with monkey DNA

To be honest I'm glad it was Clover who got mind controlled and started acting like a monkey instead of Alex. Not saying that the writers are racist, just that the episode wouldn't have aged well if Alex (The only person of color in the trio.) started acting like a monkey.

Boscha is weirdly wholesome with Maya

I like her reassuring her palisman to just be herself and I like how she can't stop feeding Maya treats because she's just so cute. I hope Boscha in the show treats Maya something like this.

I'm glad Gwendolyn wasn't anything like this

Before we got to know what she's like, MoringMark interpreted her as an unbearable mother who you'd hate to come over for a visit. I guess that's not too far off but her being unimpressed with Eda's achievements with her business and just wanting her to date isn't as interesting I like her as Gwendolyn being misguided but a loving parent. She's a sweet old lady being scammed out of her life savings, she's also pretty tough despite that. She's like a middle ground between the three mothers in this show. She's not as great of a mom as Camila but way better than Odalia. Her being a fantasy antivaxxer is interesting too, especially since both Eda and Lilith majored in potions when they were in school.

Leaving Soos in the corn maze could've ended horribly

Just the episode before this, Ford explained that the family needed to take extra precautions to make sure Bill couldn't invade any of their minds. The road trip in the following episode made more sense after reading journal three because Ford suggested to Stan that they get out of the house for a few days so he could do some research but leaving Soos in the middle of a field for who knows how long was especially dangerous with Bill still looming over everyone's heads. Apparently people used to theorize that Soos would be the person Bill decides to use as his pawn for this reason. Makes sense because who better to manipulate Dipper and Mabel than somebody they see as almost like a big brother. Though I don't really see any kind of reason why Soos would ever shake Bill's hand, he's a very simple, easygoing, and selfless man. Nothing for Bill really that he could use to tempt him into making a deal.

Cadance

I remember her being my favorite character as a kid but honestly I think I just liked her mainly for Canterlot Wedding. Those were the only episodes where she was plot relevant that I rewatched frequently as a kid. I like her in other episodes but for me my interest in her peaked at her debut.

Steven was homeschooled

Danny jokily said that Steven wasn't homeschooled by Pearl because she didn't seem too familiar with the concept but I think what "Mirror Gem" was trying to convey was that Pearl doesn't know what a classroom looks like not that she isn't teaching Steven anything. I'm pretty sure it has been confirmed that Steven is getting an education from the gems. One of the comics explored this where Connie took Steven to her school for a day, they had a pop quiz. When Steven took the test, he was the only one who got a perfect score on it because having Pearl and Garnet as teachers has made him smarter than anybody else in Connie's class. I'm not sure if the comic is canon but it does hold some significant weight.

Sapphire vision

I wonder if sapphires can only predict things that they will be present for. This series has always been about perspective so I wouldn't be surprised if sapphires could only see ideas of the future from their perspectives. Though I think Garnet had visions of just Steven that she wasn't present for. You could explain that though as Garnet just being more powerful than a regular sapphire because she's a fusion.

Did the spies actually save Melissa? (Sorry for poor image quality.)

I always wondered this because we saw Melissa with all the other kidnapped hair salon patrons but we never saw her get rescued. What's worse is that on my second watch, she was being carried away by Felicia's goons. Now I'm not sure of the girls actually saved her.

Eda and Helen need an episode together

I'm not a big Helen fan and I do think she's getting too much screentime in this show but if we really have to put her in this many episodes, might as well give her someone as sassy and chaotic as she is. They have a lot in common too. They're both witches and they both have sibling rivalries with their formerly estranged sisters. Eda with Lilith and Helen with Agnes. They could probably cook up a scheme together, maybe Eda helps Helen put on a concert and while Helen is hamming it up on the stage, Eda goes around pickpocketing chibis.

Alexandrite is my least favorite fusion

She doesn't really have much personality. Yes, I know it's because she's made of multiple gems rather than two but that doesn't mean I have to like the character. I know Opal didn't have much personality either but I at least appreciate the effort to give her one in outside media. Her being forgetful was cute. She's graceful like Pearl but also loses stuff like Amethyst. I also just don't like Alexandrite's design. Somehow she looks elaborate and boring in my opinion, I like her blueish green hair I guess. She always felt more like a basic bitch which is why I found it disappointing that of all the main team fusions, this was Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl's go-to choice most of the time. It makes sense narratively but still.

Evil Hair Salon

This plotline is especially dark, a lady named Felicia Mane is kidnapping hair salon patrons and stealing their hair/life essence to the point where the victims get old and weak. Though I do like Sam, Alex, and Clover going to the mall to buy a birthday gift for Jerry. At this point, they see him as a father figure. It's especially cute because I don't think we ever see the girls interact with their own dads that much in this series. We get plenty of moments of them with Stella, Carmen, and Gabriella but not with their dads. The joke where they get him a wig from the salon is pretty funny too.

Charlie voice comparison

I honestly love both official voice actresses for Charlie. They both work in different ways. Jill Harris (Pilot Voice.) made her sound innocent and energetic. Really brought out her optimistic and hyperactive personality. Erika Henningsen (Main series voice.) meanwhile made her sound more like an adult. Not that the pilot voice was bad, the character just sounded much younger than she really was. Erika's voice helps Charlie sound like a mature young woman but still bursting with positivity.

Out of pocket shopkin fic lore (Yes, that's something I wrote.)

The shopkins were these girly toys I was obsessed with when I was younger, they were these little colorful collectables that came in a variety of shapes and sizes. One could be an apple, one could be a sundae, other could be a stapler. The possibilities were endless! What you might not have known were that these toys had a spinoff but for boys instead of girls. These toys shaped like rotten eggs, toilet paper, etc. The slogan was "Your shopkins gone rotten", the slogan always stood out to me because I thought it meant that these guys used to be shopkins before rotting into something more unflattering. Quite literally becoming rotten to the core. That's why when I used to write shopkins stories, the grossery gang were evil former shopkins trying to take over Shopville.

I think it was good because I could have a group of evil villains without saying that they were evil because they were a minority. They technically are shopkins still, just evil. It's not even a boys are evil girls are good thing because there's still boy shopkins living in Shopville and the girl shopkins don't feel superior to them. They treat them as equals.

Have you ever changed an oc after getting inspired by the Mii version of themselves?

I don't even know if that title makes any sense. Anyway, recently I decided my OC Fiona is good at painting because I wanted a joke of her painting a portrait of Sayori from Doki Doki Literature Club because these two might fall in love in my game and I wanted to do a joke where Fiona paints her inspired by that Smiling Friends joke that had Allan painting a real woman who ships herself with him. I didn't always have it planned that Fiona could paint, originally her only talents before this were that she could play instruments (Specifically the flute.) and that she's a crime fighter as her magical girl persona Music Note.

Episode Quality

I do get the vibe that the writers had fun with every episode of this show that they wrote. Pretty much all of them are great or good in some way. They really did know what their audience would and wouldn't enjoy, apparently they scrapped an episode about Dipper trying to shut down a party because they couldn't find a way to make him likable or enjoyable in that one. I can understand why they never made that one.

I still think Clover originally belonged to Terra

A bee palisman just makes sense for a plant coven head to have. Bees love flowers, Clover connected with a plant track witch specifically, she's literally named after a plant. I'm making a follow up post to this because I remember getting some pushback from this theory. That Clover was drawn to Willow because of her desire to help out her friends which is something Terra couldn't care less about. After thinking it over, I think there was something else Willow said that made Clover choose her. When she said that anyone who gets in her way will feel the sting of defeat. Very much something Terra would say. Bat Queen describes Willow as "Tender yet tenacious" which I think fits both Willow and Terra. Terra is very powerful but has a side of her that's sweet and warm, I know that was just fake kindness from her but I don't see how her palisman would've seen that at first.

IPie

The funny thing about this episode is that it starts with Spencer, Carly, Sam, and Freddie getting addicted to this city famous pie first thing in the morning. I know people sometimes treat themselves to dessert for breakfast but I've never heard of anybody actually going to a pie shop in the morning and having that be the first experience of the day.

Teri

I'm not sure why she was one of my favorites as a kid, I still like her but I can see why anyone would find her annoying. She is very whiny and constantly complaining about getting germs on her. Honestly makes me wonder what people think of hypochondriac characters like her.
