pixel artist looking to try out my hand at making an semi-openworld rpg

So i remembered this software exists recently but before i give it a go i have some questions. for context heres what im thinking of:

somewhat openworld rpg with wandering enemies, villages that are fully inside the world (not just a sprite on an overworld map), equippable masks, limbs and trinkets, maybe a customizable player character?, turnbased combat.

  1. do i need to know any code for what i am envisioning here? i severely lack the mental ability to think in terms of code, my memory is way to shit for that.

  2. what version should i use? i hear MZ is the newest but apparently lost support for a lot of plugins? is it still good for my project?

  3. how well does this program handle character customisation/modular sprites? i was thinking of making various masks that you can swap out between characters that visually show up on their heads. same goes for augmenting character limbs, turning them into wood, stone,bone etc. i also was playing with the idea of letting players make a customisable player character. maybe even allow them to import a custom player sprite. does the software allow something like that?

is tonfary a trustworthy company?

i have made bad experiences with the company CLP in the past who have not responded to any customer support contacting attempts of mine. so i want to make sure that the chair by tonfary i want to get will have actual customer support if something on it breaks
