Polycephaly is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by the development of two or more heads on a single body, resulting from incomplete embryonic splitting or fusion. This condition is most commonly observed in reptiles, particularly turtles and snakes, due to their external egg development which exposes embryos to environmental teratogens.

A note: Geoffrey Unsworth is recognized as the primary cinematographer for the film, however, he departed early from the project. This sequence, "The Dawn of Man", was one of the last scenes filmed during production, and was overseen by John Alcott who took over for Unsworth following his departure.
