Since the start of the war, around 32,000 Ukrainian men have illegally fled to Romania, Romanian border guards told Bild. Dense forests, biting cold, arduous paths: In the Romanian Carpathians, Ukrainian men risk everything to escape deployment to the front against Russia.

When the Romanians found Vasyl, a 26-year-old postman from Ivano-Frankivsk who had received a draft notice and decided to flee, his body temperature had dropped to 30°C, and his blood test results resembled those of a dead person.

He was evacuated by helicopter and is now in a Romanian hospital: he has come out of the coma, but lost both kidneys.

“Yesterday I spoke with my mother. Now she knows: I am free,” Vasyl says in a weak voice.

The neoliberal autopilot had become a conveyor belt, and Labor demonstrated that it would do nothing more than offer much of the same policy imperatives as its predecessor: tax cuts, AUKUS, oil and gas licences to foreign tax-dodging giants.👇

Labor’s first term, laden with the disappointment of small target government, was followed by its second term of economic, diplomatic and military support for policies that many voters saw as disconnected from domestic suffering (like Israel’s genocide in Gaza), while rents soared, wages stagnated, and essential services creaked. The working class watched on as their concerns were sidelined.

Sergey Lavrov, asked whether Lithuania's foreign minister was going too far with his statements about a NATO attack on Kaliningrad:

"The head of Lithuania's MFA — who is that? I've stopped reading them. They have to somehow confirm that they exist. Only — unlike the well-known philosopher who said 'I think, therefore I am' — these ones simply exist."

These were activists attempting to break a blockade and deliver aid to starving civilians in Gaza Strip. They were not armed. They were not a threat. Yet they were treated with force and intimidation for trying to show humanity.
