I have been maintaining this new wave/synthpop {playlist} for 7 years (or maybe 8), with songs I consider the genre essentials, plus some obscure gems and even some modern revivalists and indie acts. I hope to crowdsource suggestions to expand and improve it.

Might contain explicit lyrics. It’s my playlist, it’s obvious I included OC, but it’s on topic, I promise. The selection of essentials are mine and might not reflect what you consider the rightful essentials, impolite opinions won’t be taken into account (and the offender blocked) no matter how well founded you think they are. Other than that, feedback is actively appreciated: I want this to be the best new wave list on all of Spotify. Curtis!

I noticed that when I am typing a comment, reply or even editing those on the iPad’s app, I cannot see what I’m typing unless I do a swipe gesture from bottom to top left…

I assume of course this is a bug because I pretty much doubt anyone would suggest this being done by design as a good or at least not dumb idea. Right? Right?

Anyone else experiencing this? Does keeping iOS updated to the latest iteration helps? Or is my iPad the real culprit?

What’s going on with Reddit’s Synthwave territory?

I posted about my 1500 followers playlists being open to submissions again, expecting to get a lot of feedback as I used to get in, say, 2019, but even as late as 2023. But the reaction has been lukewarm at best. Also, popular playlists would get hundreds of upvotes back then in Synthwave subs like r/outrun, while today you are lucky if you get ten. Or any at all for song posts, usually without any comments. The r/futuresynth subreddit is essentially dead.

I know for a fact that Reddit made some pretty significant algorithm changes, giving preference since then to deliver to the userbase posts with lots of comments instead of posts who get upvoted fast (the hot posts of yonder). Then it killed the r/All page that was the dream of every musical producer who wanted to go viral. But it does not explain why all synthwave subs are like graveyards now. There is something else going on: where did all the cool people go if they left synthwave behind?

As a side note, I noticed that large music subs like r/music or r/listentothis won’t take playlist anymore and this is a bummer since playlists are great tool for genre-based musical discovery. Reddit used to be the place where genres were born, now it seems it’s the place where music comes to die.

My No Vocals Synthwave playlist is again open for submissions: plug your best stuff

Submissions open until this Wednesday. Only one song per artist. No vocals, as implied by the title. Sampled voice and vocoders count as vocals, don’t submit these. Post the song in the comments: no chats, please! Looking forward to have all the synthwave in my playlist.

Oh, the playlist itself: go to Spotify and add this to the URL just after the.com: /playlist/6BoTD9WeyBN5rD5uyhbROO (doing this way to avoid Reddit’s filters, which are particularly aggressive with external links these days).

Eight and a half hours of synthwave with vocals (Ollie Wride, Nina, The Midnight etc. - all the great singers are there)

Also, it used to be the larger and most popular synthwave with vocals playlist, at least on Spotify.
