apnews.comWhy Is ICE on Native Land?
Prior Lake, Minnesota: Reports and documentation emerging from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community show Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents operating on tribal grounds during a traditional Wacipi (powwow) at the Shakopee grounds.
The presence of federal enforcement officers at a sovereign Native gathering underscores a critical reality: these operations extend far beyond conventional immigration concerns, directly challenging tribal sovereignty and raising fundamental questions about the reach of federal policing on indigenous land.

apnews.com2000 years later, and this story still feels just as relevant as ever.
For reference, the person who wrote this iteration of the tale I’m using, was the ancient Roman poet Ovid, whose poems often focused on characters questioning authority, and painting those in power in a bad light,
And because there poems often focused on such themes and meanings, the destroyer of the Roman republic, emperor Augustus, banished Ovid to the edges of the empire, to silence them, so they can no longer spread such dissent to power through their works.
Now, 2000 years later, let me ask you, why does such censorship sound so familiar?

Trump is officially now, one of the most unpopular presidents ever in US history,
Trump even more unpopular now then they ever were before, meaning if we all just continue to mobilize and organize with other neighbors for just a wee bit longer,
Then their reign of terror coming to an end will be inevitable!

Instead of the broad “abolish ICE” demand, we should instead demand specific policy changes from congress!
Now, I know many of us want ICE fully abolished, and I fully understand why, but when looking at the statistics from yougov, as I will link here: https://yougov.com/en-us/articles/55212-majority-americans-little-or-no-confidence-ice-immigration-customs-enforcement-july-17-20-2026-economist-yougov-poll
Support for abolishing ICE has actually dropped slightly, going from 50%: https://yougov.com/en-us/articles/54225-support-for-abolishing-ice-reaches-50-percent-february-27-march-2-2026-economist-yougov-poll
And I feel like a good reason for that is what does abolishing ICE actually entail? Because I’m pretty sure most of us aren’t actually advocates for open borders like the Trump regime propaganda claims(at the very least I’m not), so ICE would have to be replaced by another agency, but the thing is, the agency before ICE, that being the immigration and naturalization service: https://www.britannica.com/topic/Immigration-and-Naturalization-Service
Was known for committing numerous abuses as well itself, some of which seem all too similar to ICE today, so abolishing ICE would really only fix a symptom, that being immigration enforcement always being extremely problematic in US history, and finally, also addressing the problem that realistically, for congress to enact policy changes, despite both the filibuster and presidential veto standing in their way on that, abolish ICE would need widespread by partisan support, which even after the aftermath of operation metro surge and the amount of exposes exposed in the US capital for all to see, abolishing ICE has just never really had that.
Compare that to the public demand for massive reforms to ICE, as I showed in the image above, and as I’ll link right here: https://www.thirdway.org/memo/president-trumps-immigration-problem
Congress passing specific reforms for ICE to further enhance accountability and curb abuses is extremely popular amongst both sides of the aisle, so much so, that some specific policy getting passed genuinely might have an extremely high chance of being written after November of this year, and because of that, I feel as though at nonviolent protests and in the media, these should be something we should be demanding, things that genuinely have an extremely strong chance of being passed, despite a presidential veto,
So without any further a due, let’s get to it!
