Sourdough bread “pizzas”
Very simple, just sourdough bread, sauce, cheese, pepperonis, Italian seasoning and chili flakes. Yum 🍕
Girlfriend dumped me while my mom is dying because she didn't want me to lean on her for support.
Homemade Buffalo bacon burger.
My mom has COPD and her health has been yo-young drastically for the past 2 months. Things got very bad and she was moved to a hospice. This is where everything gets messy.
I've been doing all I can and making time to see my mom and initially my girlfriend told me to let her know if there's anything she can do and that she would be there for me. I thanked her and told her that right now I just want someone to spend time with to keep me from spiraling in those quiet scary moments alone. I asked if she could maybe take my dog out for a walk now and again (she has a key to my place) during the time I usually get home so I can travel the 90ish minutes to see my mom. She said absolutely, however she only ended up doing it once before feeling too inconvenienced by it.
I'd call her after tough visits at the hospital or hospice and let her know I'm struggling badly with everything going on and she would say she's sorry and again to let her know if there was anything she could do, so I asked if she could spend a few nights with me this week. She said she couldn't due to work. That's totally fine, but instead she went on a spontaneous trip to Whistler with her friends that I did not get an invite to. This pattern of asking if there was anything she could do and then not actually doing it started to bother me. I'd be at the hospice while she is at a beach party, or a club or a concert.
Finally I told her I'm not feeling loved and she said she is sorry but she keeps getting thoughts of nice things she could do to help me out and then not doing them to her own self proclaimed selfishness. I told her I need to take some time to myself to think about that and went no contact. Things got very bad with my mom 2 days ago so I called her and she said she needs more time and then broke my heart with the sentence "I know everything going on right now is a lot and I'm sorry I can't give you the support you need. Seeing your name pop up on my phone has started to make my stomach drop"
She's removed all pictures of us on social media and told me to no longer contact her.
I'm heartbroken, lost, and still struggling with the burdon of caring for my mom, my dog, and have thus been deeply neglecting myself. I'm scared, struggling, and now feel so trapped and lonely.

Crime Trends in St. Catharines-Niagara: StatCan Data
The recently released Statistics Canada Uniform Crime Reporting Survey offers a holistic look at safety trends in St. Catharines-Niagara.
- Homicides: Crucial for measuring extreme violence. The local rate (1.45/100k) remains historically and consistently below the national average (1.61).
- Crime Rates: Tracks community safety levels. Violent crime rose between 2015 and 2025, though it remains below Canada's overall rate. Property and drug offenses generally fell.
- Clearance Rates: Measures police solve rates. Non-violent clearance rose to 30%, but violent clearance dropped to 51%—falling below both Ontario (60%) and national (54%) averages.
Takeaway: St. Catharines-Niagara remains safer than many Canadian regions, but a rising violent crime rate combined with declining violent case clearance presents a notable challenge.
Transportation in Niagara
I wanted to share my experience with Loyal Transportation because I believe others should be aware.
Our driver refused to take us to our agreed destination because he said he had to drive his neighbour instead. Instead of completing our trip, he dropped us off on the side of the road before we reached our destination. When my boyfriend questioned why we were being left there, the situation escalated, and the driver tried to grab him and pull him out of the vehicle. It was a frightening and completely unprofessional experience that left us feeling unsafe.
I filed a formal complaint with Loyal Transportation and gave the company the opportunity to investigate what happened. Unfortunately, despite waiting for a response, I still haven't received a meaningful resolution or any real accountability.
Based on my experience, I can't recommend using this company.
Can anyone recommend a reliable and professional transportation company in the Niagara Region that they've had positive experiences with? I'd really appreciate your recommendations.
East Side Mario's Disappointment
I went to check out the new ESM here in St. Catharines. I'll start by saying I haven't been to an ESM in a few years and I'm aware it's a chain restaurant so I wasn't expecting much, but I was still disappointed. The bread used to be served with salted butter but they served it with margarine and the bread had no garlic flavour. They also don't do the "tell me when" anymore with the grated cheese? We had to ask and every time they'd do three rotations, dump it out, then walk away. It also seems like they've changed the caesar dressing because it was really watery and sweet. The AYCE was disappointing--small portions, had to track down the server to ask for more, and the lettuce of the salad was either brown or white. The service and food was pretty forgettable. If you're thinking about checking this place out, I'd recommend skipping and going to a local spot instead.
Sunday morning Showcase
How would you rate this showcase ( prepared my me ) ?
Our store is in Mississauga. We don’t have seating at our store , just drive-thru and take-out.
Few remarks :
Sunday is not very busy so we don’t bake much as our wastage is high on Sunday,so we put the minimum required number of items which is 3 of each.
Secondly yes , I know we are missing one tag ( for protein bagel), manager will come at 6 and they’ll bring a new one.
So how would you rate my showcase out of 10?
early finds at walmart!
so far, I tried the pumpkin spice coffee and the torani syrup -- both are very good! picked this up yesterday!
Any lunch experts in here? What’s your best tip you want to share with others?
